She was initially inspired by the shadows that were cast onto grass. After a few weeks she devised a process which did not create the object she chose onto canvas in an image that was flat. This way, the selected subject is transformed into an image of itself. This happens especially for living things or objects that die, such as fruit or human beings. Alexa Meade's style of painting, that is a bit ephemeral in its nature, can be seen. The only piece of her art to survive is her photograph. Trompe l'oeil is achieved using the two processes of painting and photographing. It creates two-dimensional flattened image. Meade can sometimes incorporate her painted model into the surrounding three-dimensional environment that allows her to work within the world of their own. In this way, she has removed the borders between painting, photography and the performance.
